La Goélette: a boat-shaped play area in Le Barcarès
SMC2 designed and built La Goélette, a custom play architecture at the heart of Le Barcarès, inspired by the maritime universe and the nearby port. Covering 696 m² /7,492 sq ft (33 m long × 69 ft / 21.1 m wide), this intergenerational space blends sport, play, and imagination for children and adults alike.
Designed for fun, exploration, and safety, La Goélette offers age-appropriate activities:
- Ages 0–4: swings, mazes, tunnels, and crawling courses
- Ages 4–7: swings, rope nets, trampolines, and hideaways
- Ages 7–12: ladders, fireman’s pole, stepping stones, balance games, and climbing walls
Each zone encourages motor skills, creativity, and social interaction, creating an inclusive and interactive playground.
The structure features a wide range of recreational and fitness equipment:
- Slides, swings, and rope tunnels
- Sensory play areas with EPDM surfaces and spring-based games
- Fitness park with climbing wall and trampoline
A soft, impact-absorbing floor ensures safe play, while 6 BoxUp lockers make sharing sports and play equipment easy.
Beyond its equipment, La Goélette integrates harmoniously into the urban and landscape setting of Le Barcarès. The play architecture emphasizes fun and imagination, creating a lively, attractive, and welcoming place for families.
