Port du Teich Belvedere in France : A New Perspective on Nature

The Port du Teich has been enriched with a new architectural landmark: the Port du Teich Belvedere. This unique structure combines aesthetics, durability, and functionality, offering visitors an exceptional vantage point over the surrounding natural environment.

Featuring a mixed timber-and-metal structure, the belvedere spans 78 m² / 840sq  ft and rises nearly 20 meters / 65 feet high. Built in the heart of the Natura 2000 zone of the Teich Ornithological Park, it perfectly reflects the values of the town, proudly described as “chosen by nature.”

For this project, SMC2 brought its expertise in timber and steel structures to create an iconic landmark. The building was designed with accessibility and safety in mind, featuring a wide, comfortable staircase leading to a main platform 18 meters / 60 feet in diameter. Wooden tiered seating at the top allows visitors to enjoy the landscape in comfort, offering a fully immersive experience.

From the top of the belvedere, the 360° panoramic view is spectacular. Visitors can admire the Leyre delta, its marshes, rivers, and the diverse birdlife of the Teich. The view over Arcachon Bay completes this exceptional panorama, offering a true “balcony on nature.”

Beyond its role as a tourist attraction, the belvedere serves as an educational tool. It allows visitors to understand and appreciate the local ecosystem, fostering awareness of environmental conservation.

The construction of the belvedere involved several key stages: installation of the posts, delivery and assembly of the timber-and-metal structure, securing the main platform, and installing the stairs. The combination of noble and durable materials ensures both the strength and the aesthetic appeal of the building.

The Port du Teich Belvedere is more than just a viewpoint: it has become a place for gathering and social interaction, ideal for families, photographers, and nature enthusiasts alike. It perfectly illustrates the town’s commitment to enhancing its natural heritage while offering visitors a truly unique experience.
