A modern and sustainable grandstand roof in Menden (Germany)
As part of the renovation of the Huckenohlstadion in Menden, SMC2 contributed to the transformation of the sports facility by constructing a roof over the main grandstand, covering a surface area of 286 m²/3 079 ft².
This project is part of a broader effort to modernize sports infrastructure, combining aesthetics, spectator comfort, and technical performance.
The roof is supported by a hybrid load-bearing structure that combines:
-
Hot-dip galvanized steel, for its strength and durability
-
Glued laminated timber, for its mechanical properties, visual warmth, and low carbon footprint
This combination offers an excellent balance between structural strength, visual lightness, and environmental responsibility.
The roof is covered with textile membrane modules, known for their ability to:
-
Provide effective weather protection
-
Allow natural light to filter through
-
Offer a smooth, contemporary appearance
At the rear, the grandstand is clad in timber panels, providing a clean, harmonious finish that blends with the overall structure.
Thanks to this modern roofing solution, the Huckenohlstadion now provides optimal comfort for spectators, regardless of the weather.
