A modern, sustainable sports hall designed for all users
SMC2 has completed the construction of a new covered sports hall in the town of Izon — an ambitious facility designed to promote year-round sports practice, regardless of weather conditions or time of day.
This 30-by-30-metre structure offers a 650m² / 6996ft² playing surface, sheltered by a glued-laminated timber frame and a dual-pitched textile membrane roof. The façades are made of micro-perforated, screen-printed textile membrane, combining functionality and aesthetics.
This fully bespoke multisport canopy includes:
🔹 Galvanized steel equipment
🔹 Timber boarding
🔹 Multisport perimeter fencing
🔹 Integrated benches and bike racks
Designed for versatility, the space accommodates basketball (two 3×3 courts and one 5×5 court), handball, and street handball.
The project was the result of a collaborative approach:
Ahead of construction, the municipality of Izon conducted a thorough consultation process with professionals and future users to precisely identify their needs. This phase was key in designing a functional, durable facility tailored to local expectations.
Now open to sports clubs, schools, after-school programs, and the general public, the hall supports the growing popularity of sports in the area and helps make sports more accessible to all.
The project also includes an artistic component through the French “1% artistic contribution” initiative, featuring a unique design treatment on the façade and the ground.
Both technical and visually appealing, this sports hall is a valuable asset for the town of Izon and its community.
