PREOSPORT – SARLAT-LA-CANEDA (FR)

A new covered sports area in Sarlat-la-Canéda, France

SMC2 has built a modern and sustainable covered sports facility in Sarlat-la-Canéda, in the Dordogne region of France. Designed for schools, sports clubs, and community associations, this structure provides a versatile space for year-round activities.

Built with a mixed wood-and-steel frame, the facility is covered with a tensioned textile roof. This lightweight yet durable solution protects from the weather while allowing natural light to filter through. The combination of timber and fabric ensures daily comfort while lowering the project’s carbon footprint.

Dimensions tailored for sports practice

• Length: 38,0 m / 125 ft
• Width: 20,0 m / 66 ft

These proportions accommodate a full multi-sport court, along with a locker/storage building and two pétanque courts.

The playing surface is finished with an acrylic resin coating and marked for basketball and futsal. The facility also includes:

• Multi-sport cages,
• Fixed side basketball hoops,
• Ball-stop netting for safety,
• A partition that separates the pétanque courts from the main playing area.

This modular layout allows the space to be shared by schools, sports teams, and local associations, encouraging practice for all ages.

Next to the covered area, SMC2 also built a timber-framed locker and storage unit, clad in Douglas fir siding that blends seamlessly with the surroundings. Wooden louvers provide both a functional and aesthetic finish.
