Design and built of a sports complex in Carbon Blanc (France)
SMC2 built this sports complex, with a total surface area of 1,720 m². It comprises a 1,056 m² multi-sports hall for team sports such as football, basketball and handball, a 200 m² dojo for martial arts, and 140 m² of changing rooms and sanitary facilities.
The foundations of the entire building are Techno Piles. The roof structure is made of glulam timber and the walls of CLT panels. The exterior cladding is single-skin on the north and west façades, and double-skin on the east and south façades.
SMC2 adapts its construction system according to the sports area, and therefore the type of sport practised. For the gymnasium, the roof and facades are made of a textile membrane. The stretched fabric guarantees lighting, thermal and acoustic comfort thanks to its translucency, its ability to reflect the sun’s rays and its flexibility. Radiant gas panels heat the gymnasium to 12°C in winter. Controlled mechanical ventilation ensures comfortable playing conditions in summer.
The dojo, changing rooms and entrance hall are heated by a hot-water radiant gas boiler.
